AN ODE TO THE HEART

"The Heart has reasons that reason cannot know"

~ Blaise Pascal

The heart is a muscle literally
Though asides from its anatomical description
most importantly, the heart is a beautiful part of us
figuratively speaking one is never really complete without the heart
at times it may feel broken
though I assure you that it still beats
still contains the passion, though at times it can be overwhelming and painful,
the body is weak when the heart lacks strength
it is the source of courage
where hero's drink their fill to battle their demons
inner or of a physical kind
it all takes place in the heart
to prevail and to conquer
No victory or accomplishment can be as sweet if not for the heart

The heart can be extolled to limits unexplainable
and just when we think its all has been spent
guess again for there it beats
that heat rising up from within our chest
it embraces us , allows us to seize the moment
and in one feel swoop, conquer everything that assails us

The heart can be broken yes, I guarantee that
to what extent I do not know
How and why can it be broken you ask
I answer; for the heart beats for one purpose, and that is to love.
For when we love there is always the risk of hate
And in love there is also the opportunity of growth.
Which road will you take?

And for those who think they have no use for a heart
The egotistical mindset that we can somehow do away with it
No i do not feel sorry for you
but in many ways i do long to reach out and touch that icebox you hold inside your chest
to reacquaint it with warmth and passion
so that in the event that you may need the heart
for believe me, there will be a time
a time when you will need a strength above the mind and what your physical being can do
you are prepared for the onslaught of emotions that it will flood your very being
to be able to translate said love to action.

And lastly the heart is there, we all feel it
though we may try to cast it aside
for it seems to only bring about pain
now is not the time to practice indifference
for to ignore it is fatal
for when you need your heart, it might just ignore you back.
for the longest time we have been fooling ourselves that it was broken
when it was really us who was in need of repair all along

~ Christian San Jose
