Mistaken Identities

TapTap
---------

as finger tips and shoulder make contact
a back turned, slowly waltzed a face to mine
a glorious pirouette, moving against the clockwise ways of the world

your eyes held it all
rebelling from everyone around you
as to turn astute and confront me
lights from lofty ceilings revel in green iris'
momentarily but enough for me to catch glimpse
the look you gave me was of pure rapture

yet it seems, i have mistaken you for somebody else.
meticulous, i search in the landscape immediate above neck
and see the resemblance, as well as the utter difference
a change perhaps, or a doppleganger present before me?

i was so sure it was you,
you who have stolen my heart
the one who left me breathless
my reason for dancing with demons
and delving in delusions

yet your eyes, though it captures light, and emits brilliance
it no longer held interest

I see my reflection in them, and what looks back at me is profound confusion
distress
disbelief

the reciprocity i once thought existed, nowhere found
a case of misshaped reality
or misplaced idolatry

who are you before me?
and who was she before you became presently?
where is she, and why has she left?

leaving me with nothing
but a genuine case of mistaken identity.

...i'm sorry, i thought you were somebody i thought i knew
