All is Fair in Love and War - or is it?
Jerry Levitan:
"Hey, John can you please tell us of, what the situation is with you and your entry into the United States"
John Lennon:
"Ah...a lot of people don't want me in, you know, they think I'm gonna cause a ViOLeNT revolution, which i'm not and the others dont want me in either cause they don't want me to cause peAce either you know, cause peace is big... ah war is BIG business you know, and they like war cause and it keeps them Fat and Happy. And im Anti-war so they're trying to keep me out... but i'll get in, you know cause they'll have to own up in public that they're against peAce you know."
Jerry Levitan:
"uhm what can we, as the Youth of Tomorrow... like what can we do to help you"
John Lennon:
"help me by helping YOURselves, you know and uhm, the militant revolutionaries, ask em to show you one revolution that turned out to be what they promised militantly. Thats uh take Russia, France... anywhere where they had a... all they do is SMASH the place down, and then they build it up again. And the people that build it up hang on to it, and then they BeCome the esTAblIshmeNT. And you guys are gonna be the establishment in a few years. Its not worth knocking it down cause its convenient to have the rOOms and the MAChinerY.
The thing is to protest, but protest non-violently. Cause violence begets violence, you know. If you run around wild you get SMACKed, and that's it. Thats the LAWS of the UNiVERSE. And they've got all the weapons and they've got all the money
and they know how to fight violence cause they've been doing it
for all the years SUPPRESING us, and the only thing they dont know about is non-Violence and humor. And there's many ways of promoting peace, do everything for peAce; piss the peace off, smile the peace off, go to school for peace, or dont go to school for peace. Whatever you do just DO IT for peAce.
its UP to the people, you cant BLAME it on the government, and say theyre doing this, they oh they're gonna put us in the war. We put em there... and we allow it, you know. And we can change, it if we really want to chAnge it we can chAnge IT..."
[note]
I captioned the trailer for the short film "I Met The Walrus" (hard and boring to say the least, the process of captioning - not the film), for I liked the concept of the whole experience; John Lennon's thoughts, as well as the interviewers unadulterated curiosity which is now immortalized through this film. Though I must make this quite clear - I am not for peace or for war.
I straddle that ever tethering balance only because it seems like in a world that is ever changing - our definition of peace, as well as the applications of war are both extreme and out dated. No one really wins in either scenario if you really look into the deeper meanings behind what makes up Peace and what makes up War(s). All too often we interpret Peace and War for their superficial aspects, the graphical notion of each that we hold unto our minds and hearts, when really nothing is as simple as just laying down arms, or bombing a place to non-existence. The complexity of it all which challenges us is defeated by our own lazyness or stubborness to understand.
In conclusion, Freedom is not a License for Chaos, nor is it an excuse to impose our beliefs on others.
